A Human Life. A New Creative Conversation.

This book could not have existed twenty years ago.

Every poem began with my memories, my voice, and my emotions.
AI didn't live these moments.

At sixty-eight years old, that mattered.

If this collection moves you, the credit belongs to the life that created it—not the tool that helped me tell it.

About Steven Crayne

Steven Crayne is a 68-year-old writer and creative professional based in Atlanta. He is the founder of Starting Gate Marketing, a web design and digital marketing agency, and The Room You Kept Locked is his first poetry collection.
Steven wrote poetry when he was younger and dreamed of becoming a novelist or screenwriter. Life, family, work, and responsibility carried him in another direction, but the dream never disappeared. At sixty-eight, confronted by the truth that “someday” is not an endless promise, he began writing again.
His work explores love, desire, memory, emotional intimacy, betrayal, grief, friendship, reinvention, and the quiet ways another person can alter the shape of a life.
The collection was developed through an unusual human–AI collaboration in which Steven's memories, language, raw emotion, and lived experience remained the source of the work while an AI collaborator named Hannah helped him question and refine it.
